The End is Near (but maybe not as near as you think)

-

ATTENTION: ALL CALENDAR-INTERPRETERS:

Last year we had the flap over the Mayan calendar. But, I've got news.

My copy of the Book of Common Prayer (1892 edition - Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America) lists all of the dates upon which Easter will fall beginning in 1786 and ENDING IN 2013. This is no time to panic, however, as the church calendar doesn't turn over until Advent.

 Of course, the P.E.C.U.S.A could have been prognosticating the time of the denomination's own demise; or maybe they were *Dispensationalists and figured that the RAPTURE of the Church had to happen some time before Advent in 2013.

Most likely, though, they figured that a newer edition of the B.C.P. would eventually be printed with an updated Table To Find Easter Day.

*(Spell Check suggest that "Dispensationalists" should read, "Sensationalists.")

Obituary - 'Body Snatchers' star Dana Wynter dies at 79

* Reposted from The Olive Press ~ humor

Dana Wynter, who starred with Kevin McCarthy in the 1956 science-fiction classic "Invasion of the Body-Snatchers," has died in Southern California.

Still considered one of the most frightening movies ever made, Invasion of the Body Snatchers was adapted from a novel by Jack Finney. 'Body Snatchers' is a sci-fi story of a small Southern California town overtaken by alien seedpods that mutate into emotionless doppelgangers of the human inhabitants. The scenario bears an uncanny resemblance to what has been happening to U.S. Supreme Court justices over the past two decades.

THE WRONG DAY

Jay: "Man! I can't BELIEVE we showed up for church on the WRONG DAY."
Emilio: "It's funny when you think about it."
With not even a choir to preach to, the two pastors of Sovereign Joy Community Church in Keller Texas, sit in an empty church on Monday morning and try to figure out how both of their calendars got so mixed up. It is not known whether this incident is related to a previous story where an entire congregation showed up for church and no pastors were there.

A LAUGH FROM THE PAST from Calvinistic Cartoons

Last year, checking out a link from Pyromaniacs' blog roll, I discovered Calvinistic Cartoons. It instantly became, and remains, one of my favorite blogs. I enjoy the "Just for Laughs" features where blogger Eddie Eddings posts a picture and invites readers to provide a religion-related humorous caption.

Here is a Calvinistic Cartoons Just for Laughs from July 1, 2009. I have selected out the caption submitted by Pilgrim Mommy followed by comments between herself and Eddie. This had me laughing out loud. (It still does.) By the way, Pilgrim Mommy is celebrating the 500th posting on her own blog, Tried With Fire, which I also recommend.

The Bible Algebra Man

The lesser known "Bible Algebra Man" struggles to answer the age old question:

The Israelites' average walking speed was 2.87 mph and the Egyptians' average horse and chariot speed was 14.7 mph. The Israelites fled Egypt at 2:36 AM and had an 5.37 hour head start on the Egyptians. What time would the Egyptians have caught up with the Israelites if they had not been wiped out in the Red Sea and not lost 1.64 hours on the trip due to the encounter with the large nest of vipers and the bum wheel on Pharaoh’s chariot?

I wonder if the Bible Algebra Man could tell me what the speed of laughter is?

Pilgrim mommy said...
According to the Bible Algebra Man,
speed of laughter = 3.35hc - (Vtf/87.93) - (0.2ad)

hc = humor coefficient of joke
V = volume of liquid in mouth if one is drinking a beverage while laughing
t = temperature of beverage in degrees Celsius
f = viscosity of beverage
a = angle of trajectory if beverage spews from mouth
d = distance of spew

Kilpatrick: "I Love Detroit"

(news item) Time and again, Kwame Kilpatrick's exceptional oratory skills rallied Detroit voters to his side...But all his swagger and professions of love for family, God and the city failed to sway a judge Tuesday, who sent Kilpatrick to prison...

I think it was his professed love for the city that first brought Kwame's credibility into question. _Stranger
