Lost a good friend this week

My friend, neighbor and brother in Christ, Philip Proulx, passed away this week.

Philip (nicknamed "Pep") had retired as a public school teacher and principal,  but continued teaching the youth Confirmation class at Church of the Valley, Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed our beautiful Mojave Desert, working at the church, and leading a weekly Bible study. He especially loved teaching the high school age youth, and taking them on educational field trips.

Pep once made the front page of the local newspaper. When the church office was robbed, he chased the robber across the parking lot, tackled him and held him down until the police arrived. When the bandit was in custody, he looked at Pep and said, "What kind of a church IS this, anyway?!"

A few months ago, Pep was diagnosed with leukemia of the skin. For a while, he seemed to be making an almost miraculous recovery, but that was not to be. He died on Tuesday.

Pep leaves behind his beloved wife Charlene and their three sons with their families.

We all miss him very much.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Craig. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, Beam.

We're mainly thinking about Charlene right now. Philip was the center of her life. (She never referred to him as "Pep") When I last saw her at their home, she was in a rather optomistic mood because at the time, it looked like he was going to pull through.

Anyway, Charlene and their sons, Don, David, and Dan are asking that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Craig, I'm sure God will use you at this time. Sometimes just being there when needed is monumental for those who are hurting.
Anyone who reads this post should stop and pray for the family as Philip is worshiping the Lord face to face.

Thanks, Eddie.

It is also a comfort to Char that two of their sons still live here in Apple Valley, as does one of Pep's brothers.

(As an aside, the nickname "Pep" comes from his initials P.E.P.)

My condolences on the loss of your friend as well. Having experienced several losses in the past two years, I know how it feels. I, too, will pray for the family and that God will use you to help them. Sometimes we do not need to be a font of wisdom; just "being there" helps. If God wants us to talk, he will give us the words.
